  3. This file contains information about last minute changes to PDL or other
  4. important user information.  It will also get you started if you do not
  5. have time to read the PDL.DOC file.

  8. What's New
  9. ----------
  10. PDL318 is a maintenance update that provides minor cleanup following the
  11. changes to the Prodigy(R) Service on 12/03/92.  Several functions have
  12. been DISCONTINUED as they are no longer required and have been replaced
  13. with more efficient methods of downloading.  Specifically, the Quote
  14. Check method of downloading has been DISCONTINUED as well as the X QRQ30
  15. symbol.  Both have been REPLACED with the more efficient PDL AUTOTRAK
  16. feature.

  18. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHICH METHOD YOU ARE USING, CHECK YOUR PDL.IN FILE
  19. FOR THE STATEMENT 'L ###' AS THE LINE ABOVE ALL OF YOUR INDIVIDUAL
  20. QUOTES. IF IT IS NOT THERE, INSERT IT.  EXAMPLE:

  30. PDL316 new features carried over:
  31.  - Support for Quote Track lists stored on your hard disk (TYPE L)
  32.  - Dynamic conversion of PDL.IN files to Quote Track lists (PDL
  33.    AUTOTRAK)

  35. Updates are distributed on the FlexSoft BBS, 510-829-2293, for normal
  36. updates or when Prodigy makes changes to the service.  Refer to the
  37. Prodigy Money Talk Bulletin Board under topic Other Investments - note
  38. PDL UPDATE for announcements on availability of updates.

  41. Installing PDL
  42. --------------
  43. It is best to install PDL in a new directory and not in the same
  44. directory as a previous version.  You will need to copy over your own
  45. PDL.IN file and run the PDLCONF program to configure the new version.
  46.  
  47. PDL is supplied in the .ZIP format and must be "unzipped" using the
  48. PKUNZIP program.  The PDL318 directory should contain the following
  49. files:

  52.          PDLKEY.COM       PDLCONF.EXE      REGISTER.DOC

  57. **PDLRUN.BXT is a template file used to create the PDLRUN.BAT file.  Do
  58. not alter this file or the configuration program may not operate
  59. correctly.

  61. Configuring PDL
  62. ---------------
  63.                         PDLCONF.EXE
  64.  
  65. Version 3.1.8 of PDL contains a configuration program to assist you in
  66. building the PDL.CNF and PDLRUN.BAT files.  These two files are
  67. necessary to properly start and run the PDL program.  The program will
  68. attempt to collect information from a variety of sources and then
  69. provide you with a convenient, menu driven method of specifying
  70. additional parameters or changing the automatic ones.  Once the
  71. information is correct, select the Update Parameter Files option to save
  72. the configuration and build the PDLRUN.BAT file.  Be sure to accept each
  73. configuration screen with the F10 key or some information may be lost.

  75. The configuration program is started by typing PDLCONF at the DOS prompt.

  78. Running PDL
  79. -----------
  80. The PDL program is started by typing PDLRUN at the DOS prompt.

  83. PDL.IN
  84. ------
  85. The input file (PDL.IN) can be created by using any ASCII editor (such
  86. as EDLIN) to build the ticker list.  The list format is "TYPE TICKER"
  87. where TYPE is S, F, B, L, or X and TICKER is the symbol name (5
  88. characters maximum).  Do not use a word processor to build the PDL.IN
  89. file unless you know for sure that it doesn't put special characters in
  90. the file.

  92. If you have not registered PDL it will not be able to retrieve the
  93. Market Close pages, Market Update summary, Quote Track lists or more
  94. than 20 quotes when using the PDL AUTOTRAK function.

  99. PML users may need to download the new PTT program from FlexSoft so that
  100. the quote date can be located for quotes on the first page of Quote
  101. Track output.  This was previously taken care of by the NEW2OLD.COM
  102. program which is no longer supported in PDL.
